It’s almost beginning to feel more spring like. Yes, I’m still in my winter coat and sitting in front of my fire every night (I do really feel the cold!) but the sun is finally shining a bit more and I’m starting to feel optimistic about the warmer weather to come.
It was with this optimism that when I went to Boots the other day, I found myself with the sudden urge to buy some spring appropriate nail colours (God, I’m a marketers dream and I work in the industry – I so should know better!).
My favourite drugstore nail polish brand has to be Barry M. I love their colour range, the super affordable price point and how well they last, so I headed straight to the Barry M stand to check out what they had to offer.
I’d usually pick something from their ‘Gelly’ range but I had heard good things about their new Speedy Nail Paint so went for those. The nail varnish has a new short, flat brush to make for easy (and no doubt, speedier) application. I have to say I’m pretty crappy (and impatient) with nail polish and often manage to smudge colour on my cuticles and fingers, but this seems to go exactly where it should without the need for a clean up. I have found that with all three colours I picked up, I need two applications to build up a nice even colour, but it does seem to dry quickly between coats so it doesn’t take too long to perfect my mani.
The spring shades I went for were:
Eat My Dust – a pale, grey toned blue
Pole Position – a soft green
Lap of Honour– a soft grey toned lilac
Lap of Honour is my favourite of the three but I can certainly see myself wearing all three shades throughout spring and well into summer. I love the fact that they all have a slight grey-cool tone to them, so even though they are coloured nail varnishes, they feel quite neutral and will never look too garish.
At £3.99 a pop (with a current buy one get one half price) offer at Boots these are certainly worth looking into.
