The Woburn Bridal bride is Modern, Bold and appreciates British design
Woburn Bridal has been on our radar since it first opened its doors just over a year ago and we’ve been wanting to take a look inside ever since! With its contemporary decor and fantastic selection of designers we were really excited to meet with Joanna, the owner, and explore what this unique boutique has to offer.
Located in the picturesque village of Woburn in Bedfordshire, Woburn Bridal is encased in beautiful Georgian architecture, but inside paints a very different picture. It sets itself apart with its modern black paint-spattered walls, quirky artwork and an array of dresses not seen in the average bridal shop.
On arrival we were greeted by the scent of freshly cut flowers filling the air, which Joanna sources locally, and although we were opening our mouths to talk, we were sidetracked by the stunning pale green Bowen-Dryden dress in the window which screamed stylish, fresh and chic. We couldn’t wait to see what else the rails had to offer!
I love everything in my shop, they are all my favourite – Joanna, Owner of Woburn Bridal
It was clear from the first five minutes that Woburn Bridal appeals to modern brides and those who know exactly what they want. Joanna the owner says that her clientele are usually from the “creative industries” and “have a good understanding and appreciation for design”. They want to wear something on their big day which hasn’t been seen before, something a bit different. Which is why the carefully curated selection of designers is so important.
Joanna has made it her mission to work with British design talent and form great working relationships with the designers that she stocks. It’s imperative that the brands are all ethically transparent and clear about who’s made the dress and where it comes from (we couldn’t agree more). Which is why there are no mass-produced bridal designers, and they offer a bespoke and personalised service.
My Top Tip to brides is to think about how you want to feel on your wedding day.
Joanna opened the doors to Woburn Bridal with four designers, however over the past year she has extended her eclectic selection to seven – Bowen-Dryden, By Catriona, Katya Katya Shehurina, Muscat, Poppy Dover, So Sassi and Terry Fox.
When speaking with Joanna it’s clear that she wants the best for her brides and if that means choosing the top half from one designer and the bottom half from another then so be it. Her unique approach and close relationship to the designers allows the flexibility to mix and match. Not only that but she offers a dye service should you want to let your wedding dress live on as an evening gown. Who wouldn’t want to wear their wedding dress again?
Woburn Bridal was 10 years in the making, from when Joanna first set her sights on the shop in 2006 (when it was owned by another bridal business), to finding her dream in 2016…we can safely say that it was worth the wait and we certainly weren’t disappointed!
